About Tara:

Hi, I’m Tara—a trauma-informed and culturally responsive therapist with over 15 years of experience supporting adults through a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, burnout, grief and loss, low self-esteem, relationship and family issues, racial trauma, sexual abuse/violence, and trauma/PTSD arising from both childhood and adulthood.

My work is grounded in trauma-informed care, with a specialization in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Midway through my career, I recognized that unresolved trauma often lies at the core of emotional struggles. EMDR is a powerful modality that helps you to process past experiences, release stuck emotions, and opens the door to lasting healing and growth.

Alongside EMDR, I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches including Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I believe therapy should be personalized—not one-size-fits-all—so I tailor each session to fit your unique needs and goals.

I am dedicated to providing a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences, deepen self-awareness, and develop greater self-compassion and self-acceptance. Whether you’re healing from the past or managing present-day stress, my goal is to help you uncover and heal the root causes of distress—so you can move forward with calm, clarity, and confidence.

I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Victoria and a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto. Over the years, I’ve worked in Community Health Centres in Toronto and Ottawa, served as a Counsellor at York University, and provided clinical training to psychotherapy students.
