About Sawan:
Hello, I’m Sawan. I bring over 13 years of experience providing counselling and psychotherapy to adults navigating a wide range of personal and mental health concerns.
My practice is rooted in building strong therapeutic relationships founded on collaboration, empathy, and respect. Drawing on trauma-informed, strength-based, and anti-oppressive approaches, I strive to create a safe and supportive space where my clients feel empowered to explore their experiences and move toward healing and growth.
I am training in both EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, two evidence-based approaches that support healing from trauma. I work with my clients to gently process and resolve trauma symptoms by integrating mind and body awareness, helping them feel more grounded, safe, and in control of their lives. Depending on your needs, I also incorporate other approaches such as Mindfulness Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations peoples, immigrants and refugees, and those whose identities and lived realities are shaped by histories of colonization and slavery. These experiences have deepened my commitment to offering care that is culturally responsive, inclusive, and tailored to each person’s unique circumstances.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) and a Master of Social Work degree, both from York University.
